It’s to be expected that with the launch of next-gen consoles, you can expect everything surrounding it also to be next-gen. That includes game titles, subscription options, accessories such as VR headsets, HD cameras, and remotes, and perhaps most importantly to improve your gaming experience: a totally redesigned new controller.
Along with the PS5, the DualSense Wireless controller was also a much-anticipated launch, and we can confirm that this was definitely a step up from the DualShock controller, which had a good run in its time. While the console is the main attraction, the controller is what takes online gaming on next-gen consoles to the next level, and the DualSense is packed with lots of neat features that keep getting better and better. Haptic feedback
One of the most immersive new accessories coming out for the PS5 has to be the PSVR2, but that may not be something that you’re looking to purchase just yet. However, that doesn’t mean you lose out on all the immersion!
Haptic feedback into the DualSense controller means that you physically feel the response bounce back into your hands through the vibrations, and not just like typical rumble motors would do. Rather, you feel each and every trigger, from environmental rumbling to recoil from your bow, meaning that each individual vibration is something that is simulated from the game that you’re playing!
Adaptive triggers
Adaptive triggers also take the concept of simulating your environment in real-time one step further, and the trigger buttons will actually vary in tension and how much pressure can be applied depending on the gear that you’re using in the game. From the tension of a bow-string to the acceleration of your car, you can physically feel it all! And of course, depending on your preference, you always have the option to turn this off or adjust the sensitivity to your liking.
Built-in mic
Another great feature of the DualSense is the fact that it has a completely integrated and built-in mic system. While you also have the option to plug your headset into the 3.5mm jack, on the occasion that you don’t want to use your headset, or perhaps you can’t find your headset, you can still play with your friends and chat in voice party. And instead of going through a whole series of commands to turn your mic to mute, with a simple touch of a button on the controller, you can switch your mic to mute whenever you need.
Colors to fit your aesthetic
The classic white look was definitely a breath of fresh air at launch for the PS5, as was the matching controller. However, it’s always nice to switch things up every now and then, or perhaps the maintenance of a white controller is just too much to keep up with.
Whatever the case, the DualSense controllers now come in a variety of colors for you to choose from including:
- Gray Camouflage
- Galactic Purple
- Nova Pink
- Starlight Blue
- Cosmic Red
- Midnight Black
And with the release of certain game titles, the DualSense controller may also be released in exclusive limited edition designs as was the case with the launch of God of War Ragnarök! So if you’re on the hunt for something more unique and exclusive to your collection, then it’s worth keeping an eye out for limited edition drops.
DualSense Edge controller
As if the DualSense itself hadn’t been upgraded enough, Sony has been working on the DualSense Edge, which takes customizability to the next level. Released this month, this controller is great for those who want to tailor and personalize their gaming experience to exactly their needs.
With remappable buttons, you can customize how your controller responds and completely change the commands of each button to suit how you prefer to play. You can even set up different button maps and save them to your profile and then switch between them, depending on the game that you’re playing.
The design is still relatively familiar and similar to the original DualSense; however, it now includes slip-resistant inner grips so that your gaming sessions can go on for longer without your hands tiring, as well as keeping you steady during intense moments where you need to be concentrating.
