Video Review

After our previous review of the Keychron Q65 Max, it’s nice to see something a bit more down to earth. While the Q65 Max wasn’t over the top, the K2 Pro is a much more affordable option for those who want something that just works! The K2 is looking like it should be the more viable option for those who don’t need something overly fancy and just want a mechanical keyboard they can trust.

Closer Look

Getting everything out of the box and in true Keychron fashion we have a screwdriver and Allen key so we can open the K2 Pro up if needed. We also have keycaps and switch pullers as well as some extra keycaps for those who want to use their K2 Pro on a Windows device.

I still find the 75% layout a bit cramped for my liking. I mean, on the one hand, it’s nice to have all the keys that it does. On the other, it would be nice if the arrow keys had some sort of spacing between them and the other keys. Of course, this is just my personal preference and nothing against the K2 Pro itself. A lot of 75% boards are similar so I am sure plenty of people must like them like this.

The K2 Pro comes with Keychron’s OSA profile on double-shot PBT keycaps. I always tell people this does take a bit of getting used, to but once you do, it’ll be hard to go back to standard keycaps. Keychron has engineered these so they are the most comfortable when typing and after a short break-in period, they really are.

The K2 Pro is compatible with both macOS and Windows and can be used via the included USB-C cable or over Bluetooth. When using the Bluetooth mode, you can connect up to three different devices and switch between them all with a simple click of a couple of keys.

The K2 Pro comes with a few different switch options depending on which variant of the keyboard you choose.

We have gone with the brown switches as they offer a great feel for both gaming and typing, which we do plenty of. Switch preference will come down to each user but the K pro switches are all top-notch, you just need to find what feels best for you.

Worry not if you don’t like the switches you chose as they can be easily changed! Yup, while it would be an extra charge, switches are only around $20 for 100 which will be more than enough to change the many switches on the K2 Pro. Of course, this also adds extra hassle but it’s nice to know that it can be done! Also, nice if for some reason one breaks, they are easy to change.

The Keychron K Pro switches feature the same stem design as the Cherry MX switches so you can find loads of different keycaps should you ever want to change them.

There isn’t much going on with the bottom of the K2 Pro. There are some rubber feet to help keep it from slipping around atop your desk and, of course, some adjustable feet.

The adjustable feet have 2 different levels to them offering better overall ergonomics for more users. I always like to raise mine up, but this is probably just a bad habit I have been doing for 30+ years no

The K2 Pro also comes with a bit of subtle RGB thrown in for good measure. There are several different presets you can choose from using the light key in the top right of the keyboard.

The Keychron K Pro switches feature south-facing RGB LEDs to offer the best lighting experience possible. It’s not overpowering and is a nice addition, especially when using the keyboard in conditions where there isn’t a lot of light.

Final Words

The K2 Pro is an overly exciting keyboard and that is just fine. While it did not “wow” me, it is more than subtle for me to recommend. It’s got a solid build quality, amazing performance, and has Keychron’s custom OSA profile PBT double-shot keycaps. Throw in some RGB, both macOS and Windows compatibility, and the option to connect the K2 with up to three Bluetooth devices at once and you’ve got yourself a solid mechanical keyboard.

The pricing is also a lot more on the friendly side, coming in at around £/$100 depending on your preferred retailer. This makes it a highly affordable keyboard and while it bears the Keychron name, there is no added “tax” based on this. For a keyboard of this quality and design, $100 really is a bargain.

As with most Keychron keyboards, it comes in multiple ISO layouts that include, UK, German, Nordic, Swiss, French and even Spanish! This is always a bit thing for me as there is nothing worse than living in the UK and getting a keyboard with a US layout. The changes between the two may not be massive, but I’d like the layout based on where I live, thanks! Keychron delivers on this and there are no extra charges based on the layout you chose.

As mentioned, the K2 Pro is a no-frills keyboard and while not flashy, it has most of the features and functions most will need from a mechanical keyboard. The price is on point and the performance is top-notch as we would expect to see from any product bearing the Keychron name!
