The new card, named “Thunderbolts 5,” offers faster data transfer rates and higher power delivery, making it ideal for users who need efficient, high-speed connections for various devices.
Powered by Intel’s JHL9580 “Barlow Ridge” controller, the Gigabyte Thunderbolt 5 card supports impressive data transfer speeds of up to 80 Gbps and resolutions as high as 8K at 60Hz. For users who require fast charging, the card provides up to 100W of power through two 6-pin PCIe power connectors. This makes it suitable for powering and charging devices more effectively than its predecessors.
The card utilizes a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, offering better bandwidth and overall system performance compared to the older PCIe 3.0 interface used in Thunderbolt 4 cards. Additionally, it supports USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 at 20 Gbps, which was not available in previous Thunderbolt models.
