Colorful Unveils Battle-AX B850M-E Wi-Fi V14: A Budget-Friendly AMD B850 Motherboard

Colorful has quietly added a new AMD B850 motherboard to its lineup, the Battle-AX B850M-E Wi-Fi V14, without making an official announcement. The motherboard has appeared on the company’s Chinese website, and it is designed for entry-level PC builds, making it a budget-friendly option for users looking to upgrade to AMD’s latest processors.

Designed for AM5 Processors

The Battle-AX B850M-E Wi-Fi V14 is built using AMD’s B850 chipset, meaning it supports the newest AMD AM5 Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 series processors. Despite being a budget-friendly motherboard, it comes with DDR5 support, allowing for fast memory speeds. The two DDR5 memory slots can hold up to 96 GB of RAM (maximum 48 GB per slot) and support overclocking speeds of up to 7600 MHz using both XMP and EXPO profiles.

Basic but Functional Design

The Battle-AX B850M-E Wi-Fi V14 has a simple black PCB design with minimal cooling. Unlike higher-end motherboards, it does not come with a pre-installed I/O shield or heatsinks for the VRMs. The only heatsink present is on the B850 chipset itself. The power delivery system consists of a 7+2 phase VRM setup, which is likely enough for most standard builds but not ideal for heavy overclocking.

Storage and Expansion Options

For storage, the motherboard offers two M.2 slots:

  • One PCIe 5.0 x4 slot, which supports the fastest NVMe SSDs available.
  • One PCIe 4.0 x4 slot, which still offers good speed for SSDs.

For graphics cards and expansion cards, it has:

  • One PCIe 4.0 x16 slot for a dedicated GPU.
  • One PCIe 4.0 x4 slot for additional add-on cards.

Connectivity and Ports

The motherboard includes both wired and wireless network options:

  • Realtek RTL8111K 1GbE Ethernet for stable wired connections.
  • Intel AX200 Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless connectivity.

The rear I/O panel comes with:

  • One PS/2 port for older keyboards and mice.
  • Four USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports for peripherals.
  • One DisplayPort 1.2 and one HDMI 2.0 for integrated graphics output.
  • Gigabit RJ45 Ethernet port.
  • Two Wi-Fi antenna ports.
  • Audio jacks.
  • One BIOS reset/update button.

The inclusion of a PS/2 port is surprising, as most modern motherboards have removed support for legacy peripherals. However, it may be useful for users who still use older hardware.

Battle-AX B850M-E: Availability and Pricing

So far, Colorful has not revealed the price or release date of the Battle-AX B850M-E Wi-Fi V14. It is also unclear if the motherboard will be sold outside of China. Given its budget-friendly design, it is expected to be one of the more affordable B850 motherboards on the market.
