AJAZZ AJ159 APEX tri-mode gaming mouse review

The AJAZZ AJ159 APEX Tri-Mode Gaming Mouse is bringing a lightweight design, high-speed performance, and premium build quality. With its new PAW3950 sensor, 8000Hz polling rate, and a smooth Iris coating, it aims to deliver a top-tier gaming experience.

The AJAZZ AJ159 Series includes four models: AJ159, AJ159P, AJ159 Pro, and AJ159 APEX. Among them, the AJ159 APEX is the first to feature the new flagship PAW3950 sensor, while the other models use the PAW3395 sensor. Both AJ159 Pro and AJ159 APEX support an 8000Hz polling rate, which reduces input delay significantly. To take full advantage of this, an 8K dongle is required. Additionally, the AJ159 APEX comes with a premium Iris coating, giving it a smooth and luxurious feel.

A big thank you to Mechlands for sending over this amazing mouse along with the AJAZZ AK680 MAX keyboard! This series promises top-level performance, and the AJ159 APEX stands out with its advanced features. Let’s find out!

The AJ159 APEX has a symmetrical design, making it comfortable for both left-handed and right-handed users. It measures 118.1×63.1×37.7mm, making it a good choice for people with small to medium-sized hands. The design is similar to some classic gaming mice, making it easy to get used to. One of its standout features is the Iris ice-feel coating, which keeps the surface cool and smooth. This is great for gamers with sweaty hands, as it prevents slipping and feels comfortable to touch. The mouse does not have a perforated shell, so it stays clean without collecting dust. Weighing only 56 grams, it is extremely lightweight, reducing strain on the wrist. Once you use such a light mouse, it’s hard to go back to heavier options.

The left and right buttons are separately designed with concave lines on the sides, adding a sleek touch. These buttons use Huanuo’s green-translucent white dot micro switches, providing a crisp and satisfying click. They have been tested for 100 million clicks, ensuring long-lasting durability.

At the bottom, there are three Teflon foot pads for smooth gliding. Extra foot pads are included in the box for future replacements. The mouse also has a copper magnetic charging port, making it easy to charge on the base. There are dedicated buttons for switching modes (wired, 2.4G, Bluetooth) and adjusting DPI. A USB receiver storage compartment is also included, but currently, it does not store a receiver.

A small indicator light at the centre shows the battery status flashing red when the battery is low and staying solid red while charging. The scroll wheel uses an F-Switch encoder, offering precise control. It has a lifespan of 2 million turns and a textured silicone surface for better grip.

On the left side, there are two additional buttons, also using Huanuo micro switches. These buttons feel responsive and are positioned well for easy access. The AJAZZ logo is subtly placed, keeping the overall design minimalistic.

Charging base

The charging base matches the mouse in colour, creating a stylish look on any desk. It has a bottom button to adjust RGB lighting effects and a non-slip base for stability.

One of the most exciting features is the LCD display screen on the base. It shows useful details like time, battery level, DPI, return rate, and 2.4G connection status. Users can also upload custom GIFs and animations through the AJAZZ driver software, making it more personalised.

Performance

The AJ159 APEX is powered by the PAW3950 APEX optical sensor, one of the best in the industry. It supports a maximum DPI of 30,000, which can be overclocked to 42,000 DPI. With a tracking speed of 750 IPS and 50G acceleration, it delivers excellent accuracy and responsiveness.

In wireless mode, it runs at an impressive 8000Hz polling rate, meaning it sends 8000 data reports per second. This makes input lag nearly non-existent, perfect for competitive gaming. Even in wired mode, it operates at 1000Hz polling rate, ensuring smooth performance.

The mouse supports three connection modes: wired, 2.4G wireless, and Bluetooth 5.0. Gamers will prefer 2.4G for its low-latency response, while Bluetooth is useful for office work or multi-device setups. The wired mode serves as a reliable backup for uninterrupted use.

Battery life

The AJ159 APEX has a 400mAh lithium battery, ensuring long usage without frequent recharging. The magnetic charging base makes it easy to charge by simply placing the mouse on it. This eliminates battery concerns, keeping the mouse always ready to use.

Software

The AJAZZ driver software offers a clean interface with multiple customisation options. Users can adjust button functions, macros, DPI levels (up to 8 settings), and polling rates (125Hz to 8000Hz).

Additional settings include silent height adjustment, ripple correction, straight-line correction, screen countdown, double-click speed, and scroll wheel response. Users can also share settings within the AJAZZ community, upgrade firmware, and switch languages.

The software allows customisation of the charging base display, letting users upload images or GIFs to personalise their setup further.

Enos Tech Verdict

The AJAZZ AJ159 APEX Tri-Mode Gaming Mouse delivers outstanding performance with its advanced PAW3950 sensor and 8000Hz polling rate, ensuring precise tracking and ultra-fast response times. Its lightweight design, smooth Iris coating, and ergonomic shape provide excellent comfort for extended use, making it a great choice for both casual and competitive gamers.
