AJAZZ AK680 MAX Review: A flagship edition magnetic switch wired keyboard

AJAZZ AK680 MAX Review: A flagship edition magnetic switch wired keyboard

The AJAZZ AK680 MAX flag ship edition, is a wired-only keyboard that features Magnetic Rice Switches (Hi-Fi version) with a 100 million click lifespan and precise key detection up to 0.01mm. It also supports an 8K polling rate, which ensures super-fast response times. The price ranges from $29.99 to $59.99, making it a budget-friendly choice for gamers. Magnetic switch keyboards have become quite popular, especially among gamers who want more control over their key presses. These keyboards let you adjust how deep you need to press a key before it registers, making them great for gaming and typing. In the past, they were expensive, but now, as more brands make them, prices have dropped.

There are two versions of this keyboard: standard and flagship, available in six colours. The standard version lacks some features like backlighting but still has the same magnetic switches. The flagship version, which we’re reviewing, includes topographic keycaps with side-printed legends, adding a premium touch.

This keyboard was sent to us by Mechlands, and we would like to thank them for providing this amazing product for review. We have reviewed keyboards from Mechlands before, and it’s great to see another solid option from them.

Unboxing

The keyboard comes in a stylish black box with the AJAZZ logo in red and a grey cartoon-style pattern. The back of the box lists the key features in an easy-to-read layout.

Inside the box, you’ll find the AJAZZ AK680 MAX keyboard, a USB Type-C to Type-A cable, a switch puller, and a user manual. The included switch and keycap puller makes it easy to swap switches and keycaps.

Closer look

This keyboard has a compact 68-key layout, making it perfect for gamers who need more desk space while keeping all the important keys. It measures 324.19×115.44×42.55mm, so it fits well in most setups. Its small size is especially good for FPS gamers, as it allows for more mouse movement.

The keyboard comes in two colour options for topography design, black and white. The one in this review is white.

The design looks modern, with rounded corners giving it a smooth finish. It has a three-layer frame for extra durability, and the AJAZZ logo is placed in the lower-right corner for a simple look. The front height is just 20mm, making typing comfortable.

Above the ESC key, there are three small indicator lights. One is for Caps Lock, one for Windows Lock (which prevents accidental key presses while gaming), and one for Mac Mode.

The USB Type-C port is placed in a recessed area on the left rear side. This keeps the cable secure and out of the way, making the setup neater.

At the bottom, the keyboard has four anti-slip pads to keep it steady. It also comes with two-stage adjustable feet, allowing you to pick from three different typing angles for better comfort.

Keycaps and switches

The keyboard is available in RGB and non-RGB versions. The non-RGB version has black and white ABS keycaps with top-printed legends, made using double-shot molding for durability. The RGB version features PBT keycaps with side-printed topographic legends, which resist wear and shine over time.

The standout feature of the AJAZZ AK680 MAX is its magnetic switches, allowing you to fine-tune key sensitivity. You can adjust the actuation distance from 0.01mm to 2.0mm, giving full control over how much force is needed for each key press. The 8K polling rate ensures instant response times with an input delay of just 0.125ms. The keys have a total travel of 3.5mm and are designed to last 100 million clicks.

Since magnetic switches don’t rely on physical contact, they last longer than traditional mechanical switches. This keyboard also supports full-key hot-swapping, so you can replace switches without soldering.

These switches are especially useful for competitive FPS games like Valorant, where quick reactions matter. You can set the actuation point exactly how you like, ensuring instant key presses.

However, since these switches have a firm bottoming-out feel, they may not be as comfortable for long typing sessions. That’s why most magnetic keyboards come in compact layouts (60%, 68%, or 75%), catering more to gamers than office users.

RGB lighting

The AJAZZ AK680 MAX features south-facing RGB lighting, ensuring vibrant illumination that looks great from any angle. The lighting shines evenly through the keycaps, making it visually appealing in both bright and dark environments. Users can customise the lighting with various effects, brightness levels, colours, and speeds, creating a personalised setup.

To control the RGB lighting, the keyboard has several function key shortcuts:

  • FN + \ : Switch between 18 different lighting effects
  • FN + Arrow Up: Increase brightness (six levels); at maximum, the backlight flashes three times
  • FN + Arrow Down: Decrease brightness (six levels); at minimum, the backlight flashes three times
  • FN + Right Arrow: Switch dynamic lighting direction
  • FN + Left Arrow: Switch backlight colour
  • FN + – : Decrease lighting speed (six levels); at minimum, the backlight flashes three times
  • FN + = : Increase lighting speed (six levels); at maximum, the backlight flashes three times
  • FN + X : Turn the lighting on or off
  • FN + Spacebar: Press and hold for 3-5 seconds to reset lighting settings; the keyboard will flash three times

With these controls, users can easily adjust the lighting to match their preferences, whether they prefer a subtle glow or a bright, dynamic display.

User Experience

The AJAZZ AK680 MAX gives a smooth and fast typing feel, whether for gaming or work. Its 8000Hz polling rate makes sure every key press is super quick and responsive. The TOP mount design keeps the keyboard firm and steady, while the PO cotton, EPDM cotton, and silicone layers in the flagship version help reduce noise. This makes it one of the quieter HE keyboards at this price.

The magnetic switches feel a bit firmer than expected, but this actually makes the keyboard even better to use. The switches are already lubed, so they work smoothly, and the stabilisers on bigger keys prevent any annoying clicking sounds. Typing is comfortable, and the actuation settings can be changed to match different needs. Some users might need time to adjust to the low actuation, but once set, it makes gaming and typing much easier.

The RGB lighting is bright and fully customisable. There are 18 different lighting effects that can be changed using function key shortcuts. You can also adjust brightness, speed, and colours, or turn off the lighting if needed.

For the price, the AJAZZ AK680 MAX offers more than expected. It has a great typing feel, fast response times, and high-end features usually found in expensive HE keyboards. Ajazz keyboards are known for lasting a long time, so this one is expected to hold up well too. If you’re looking to try a magnetic switch keyboard with great features, this is a fantastic option.

Software

The AJAZZ AK680 MAX comes with software that allows users to customise various settings, including RGB lighting, key remapping, and actuation points. While the software isn’t perfect, it gets the job done once you take the time to understand it.

The software lets you adjust the actuation distance of the magnetic switches, which can be set as low as 0.1mm for ultra-fast response. However, setting it too low might lead to accidental key presses. A balanced setting, like 0.25mm, works well for most users.

You can also fine-tune RGB effects, create macros, and save profiles for different tasks or games. The software can be downloaded via a link in the manual, and once installed, it offers a straightforward way to enhance the keyboard’s functionality.

Connectivity

The AJAZZ AK680 MAX is a wired keyboard that connects using a USB Type-C cable. The port is placed in a recessed area on the left rear side, keeping the cable secure and out of the way. This setup helps prevent accidental disconnections and makes cable management easier. A wired connection also ensures zero latency, making the keyboard highly responsive for gaming and fast typing. Since it doesn’t rely on batteries, you don’t have to worry about charging, and the 8000Hz polling rate ensures ultra-fast input recognition.

Enos Tech Verdict

The AJAZZ AK680 MAX delivers impressive performance at an unbeatable price. Its magnetic switches offer precise and responsive keystrokes, making it a great choice for both gaming and typing. The 8000Hz polling rate ensures ultra-fast input, while the sound-dampening layers in the flagship edition provide a quieter typing experience compared to many other HE keyboards. The RGB lighting is customisable, and the hot-swappable design allows users to change switches easily.

While the software takes some time to learn, it provides enough customisation options to fine-tune actuation settings. The build quality is solid, with an aluminium alloy plate adding durability. Given its affordable price, this keyboard offers features that are usually found in much more expensive models. For those looking to try magnetic switch keyboards without spending a fortune, the AJAZZ AK680 MAX is an excellent choice. Enos Tech awards it the Value Award for offering high-end features at a budget-friendly price.
