AMD has introduced its latest graphics cards, the Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070, during the 2025 CES event. These new cards are part of AMD’s next generation of gaming graphics and are built on the RDNA 4 architecture. AMD plans to launch them in the first quarter of 2025, making them some of the most exciting releases for gamers this year.
AMD has decided to change the way it names its graphics cards. The RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 will now lead AMD’s graphics lineup because the company has decided not to focus on ultra-high-end graphics anymore. Instead, it will target the performance segment, which balances power and price.
In terms of performance, the RX 9070 XT is expected to match the RX 7900 XT in regular gaming tasks, while the RX 9070 will be slightly faster than the RX 7800 XT. Similarly, the upcoming RX 9060 XT and RX 9060 cards will outperform the RX 7700 XT and RX 7600 XT, respectively.
AMD’s new RX 9070 XT RDNA 4 technology brings several improvements. The compute units inside RDNA 4 are faster than before. AMD is introducing its own AI tool called Adrenalin AI, which can do tasks like summarising documents, generating images, and even answering questions about AMD products. This is similar to NVIDIA’s chatbot feature. The new design makes ray tracing, a way to make graphics look more realistic, faster by using special hardware. The new GPUs will also have better tools for videos and displays.
AMD also announced FSR 4, its latest technology for making games run smoother and look sharper. FSR 4 uses machine learning to upscale images and includes features like Frame Generation to add more frames for smoother gameplay and an improved Anti-Lag 2 to reduce delays. One of the first games to use FSR 4 will be Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Nearly all major companies that create custom AMD graphics cards are ready to produce versions of the Radeon RX 9070 series. These include well-known brands like ASUS, GIGABYTE, Sapphire, and PowerColor. However, MSI has reportedly stopped making AMD cards.
The RX 9070 series is built on a new GPU called Navi 48. This chip has a rectangular shape and is believed to be made by connecting two smaller Navi 44 chips together. Navi 48 features 64 compute units (4,096 cores) with a 256-bit memory interface, while Navi 44 has half the size, with 32 compute units and a 128-bit memory interface. Both chips are made using TSMC’s 4nm technology, which AMD uses for many of its latest products.
AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 promise strong performance for gamers, along with new features like improved AI tools and FSR 4 technology. With a launch expected soon, these cards aim to provide a balance between power and price, making them a solid choice for PC gaming enthusiasts.
