About the Strix Halo Platform
The Strix Halo platform is specifically designed for AI-powered PCs and is available in two main series: Ryzen AI Max and Ryzen AI Max Pro. Each series comes in two versions: the high-end Max+ and the standard Max, with Max+ offering the most advanced specifications.
Strix Halo integrates AMD’s Zen 5 CPU and RDNA 3.5 GPU architectures, leveraging advanced chipset packaging technology. Each Zen 5 CPU core is placed in its own independent CCD, with two CCDs delivering up to 16 cores. The integrated graphics (iGPU) features up to 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units.
The platform also supports the LPDDR5x memory standard, offering up to 256 GB/s of bandwidth. Additionally, the Strix Halo platform integrates a 50 TOPS “XDNA 2” NPU, providing top-tier AI performance for Windows 11 AI+ PCs.
Product Lineup and Specifications
The AMD Ryzen AI Max “Strix Halo” series consists of four APUs, each available in both standard and Pro versions:
- Ryzen AI Max+ 395: 16 cores and 32 threads, max clock of 5.1 GHz, 80 MB cache, 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units (Radeon 8060S), cTDP 45-120W.
- Ryzen AI Max 390: 12 cores and 24 threads, max clock of 5.0 GHz, 76 MB cache, 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units (Radeon 8060S), cTDP 45-120W.
- Ryzen AI Max 385: 8 cores and 16 threads, max clock of 5.0 GHz, 40 MB cache, 32 RDNA 3.5 compute units (Radeon 8050S), cTDP 45-120W.
- Ryzen AI Max Pro 380: 6 cores and 12 threads, max clock of 4.9 GHz, 22 MB cache, 16 RDNA 3.5 compute units (Radeon 8040S), cTDP 45-120W.
Performance Highlights
The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 delivers remarkable performance, with CPU speeds up to 3 times faster than Intel’s Lunar Lake “Core Ultra 9 288V” (averaging 2.6 times faster) and graphics performance that is 158% better.
In terms of AI capabilities, the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is the first APU for Windows 11 AI+ PCs to support 70B LLM. Its AI performance in LM Studio is 2.2 times greater than that of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, all while consuming less power.
Release Schedule
AMD’s Strix Halo, Ryzen AI Max, and the corresponding APUs will be available in the first and second quarters of 2025. They will be featured in products such as the HP ZBook Ultra G1a, HP Z2 Mini G1a, and ASUS ROG Flow Z13.
