Commandos: Origins is out now on PC and consoles

Commandos: Origins, the latest game in the classic real-time tactics series, is now available for PC and consoles. It can be played on Windows PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5, and is also included in Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC. Players who prefer physical copies can get retail editions for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 starting May 22 in selected regions. The game will also release later this year as a digital download on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

This new game tells the beginning story of the well-known Commandos team. It goes back to World War II and shows how the six original members met and formed their bond. Players take on the role of Thomas “the Sapper” Hancock, who is tasked with putting together a group of skilled soldiers. The game features 14 missions where players get to experience the early days of the Commandos unit.

Studio Director Jürgen Reusswig from Claymore Game Studios said that the team wanted to bring fans back to the roots of the series and share how this legendary group was formed. He also thanked the community for their support and feedback during the development of the game.

Commandos: Origins six main characters

Players will control six different characters, each with their own special abilities. These include Jack O’Hara the Green Beret, Francis Woolridge the Sniper, Samuel Brooklyn the Driver, James Blackwood the Marine, and Rene Duchamp the Spy, along with Hancock himself. Each mission allows players to choose how they want to complete objectives, whether by sneaking past enemies, setting traps, using vehicles, or engaging in direct combat.

The game includes real-time stealth tactics and offers a clean and modern control system that lets players handle complex commands with ease. Missions take place in several realistic World War II settings, including snowy Arctic areas and hot African deserts. There are also optional goals for players who want a bigger challenge.

For those who enjoy playing with friends, Commandos: Origins also supports two-player cooperative mode, both online and in local split-screen.

PlayStation Plus subscribers can enjoy a 10% discount on both the Standard and Deluxe Editions of the game for the first 14 days after launch. On release day, Kalypso Media and Claymore Game Studios hosted a live stream to talk more about the game’s features and development. The stream is still available to watch on Kalypso’s official platforms.
