As you know, there was a long-term decline in DRAM prices due to the excess and stock increase in the production line. However, this may take less time than expected. According to TrendForce’s latest report, inventory issues have been resolved and prices are expected to rise again in the coming months. Let’s take a look at the details.
DRAM prices begin to rise
As we mentioned above, DRAM prices mostly showed a downward trend in 2023 due to the decrease in demand but the supply remaining relatively high. However, new reports from the industry emphasize the strict production controls of memory manufacturers and the increase in prices.
DRAM prices are expected to increase around 13 to 18% in the first quarter of 2024, according to TrendForce’s forecasts, which include the PC, server, mobile, GPU and consumer DRAM market . As you know, the PC industry is slowly adopting the ”newer” DDR5 standard, but the prices have not yet reached the target set by the manufacturers.
TrendForce predicts a 10 to 15% price increase in the PC and server DRAM market . In the mobile DRAM market, prices are at historical lows and stocks continue to increase. The reason for this was pointed to “ongoing uncertainty” in the smartphone market. Therefore, production is not increasing and DRAM prices will increase by 18-23% in the next three months.
Additionally, analysts expect consumer DRAM prices to increase by 8 to 13 percent for DDR3 chips and 10 to 15% for DDR4 chips. Demand continues to remain strong in the GPU market, where GDDR6 16GB modules lead the way. Therefore, prices will increase by 10 to 15% in the first quarter of 2024.
Therefore, users who will assemble a new system and purchase parts should be careful. We should also point out that TrendForce’s predictions are on a global scale and do not reflect local markets such as UK. You can knowfurther about it here.
