EA Introduces Split Fiction’s Co-op Protagonists: Mio and Zoe

Hazelight Studios, known for making exciting co-op games, is introducing two new characters in their upcoming game, Split Fiction. The game is set to launch on March 6, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. Players will take control of two unpublished authors, Mio and Zoe, who have very different personalities but must work together to escape a dangerous simulation of their own stories.
Meet Mio Hudson and Zoe Foster
Mio and Zoe come from very different backgrounds and have opposite personalities. Their journey in Split Fiction will show how they must learn to work as a team despite their differences.
Mio Hudson – The Science Fiction Author
Mio is a quiet and serious person. She grew up in the city with her father and has been struggling to make a living as a writer. Unlike others, she is not looking for fame; she just wants to earn money. Mio loves science fiction and writes about futuristic cities, high-tech weapons, and space adventures. Inside the simulation, her abilities reflect her passion for sci-fi. Players who choose Mio can expect:
- A gravity-defying ninja with an energy sword
- A high-tech exosuit with drone control
- Dual-wielding laser blasters in futuristic armor
Zoe Foster – The Fantasy Author
Zoe is cheerful, friendly, and always hopeful. She grew up in the countryside and wants to prove to her family that she can succeed. She dreams of becoming a famous fantasy writer, and her stories include magical creatures, enchanted forests, and heroic battles. In the game, her abilities match her fantasy world. Players who pick Zoe can:
- Transform into a flying fairy
- Ride a dragon into battle
- Soar across floating islands with a magical kite
Split Fiction: The Story and Gameplay
The game begins when Mio and Zoe receive an invitation from Rader Publishing Headquarters. They believe they are getting a chance to publish their books, but instead, they get trapped inside a simulation of their own stories. To escape, they must use their unique skills, uncover hidden secrets, and learn to trust each other.
The Friend’s Pass and Crossplay Feature
Like Hazelight Studios’ past games, A Way Out and It Takes Two, Split Fiction will include the Friend’s Pass. This means that if one player buys the game, they can invite a friend to play online for free. Additionally, the game will support crossplay, allowing friends to play together even if they are on different gaming platforms.
Special Meaning Behind the Names
During Split Fiction’s announcement at The Game Awards in December, Josef Fares, the creator of the game, shared that the characters’ names hold a special meaning for him. Mio and Zoe are named after his daughters, making this game even more personal to him.
Who Will You Choose?
With two very different characters, the biggest question for players is: Who will you play as? Will you choose Mio, the sci-fi warrior, or Zoe, the magical adventurer? Either way, Split Fiction promises an exciting co-op experience filled with action, teamwork, and storytelling.
