After the opening keynote at CES, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang addressed the global media and, for the first time, commented on the extremely high price of the RTX 5090.
Regarding the substantial price difference between the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, Huang explained that when consumers seek the best product, they will pay for it. “Our enthusiasts, if they want the best, won’t settle for something slightly better or slightly worse just to save $100. They simply want the best,” Huang said.
He acknowledged that $2,000 is a significant amount of money, describing it as a high price, but emphasized the value of the technology in a home theater-level PC environment. “For such a system, you might have already invested around $10,000 in monitors and speakers, and you’ll certainly want the best GPU,” he added. “That’s why many of our customers are pursuing the absolute best.”
The RTX 5090 has an official price of $1,999, marking it as the most expensive GPU in Nvidia’s history. In comparison, the prices for the other models in the RTX 50 series have been lowered compared to the previous generation RTX 40 series.
Here’s a price breakdown:
- RTX 5070: $549, compared to the initial price of the RTX 4070 at $599.
- RTX 5070 Ti: $749, compared to the initial price of the RTX 4070 Ti at $799.
- RTX 5080: $999, compared to the initial price of the RTX 4080 at $1,199.
- RTX 5090: $1,999, compared to the initial price of the RTX 4090 at $1,599.
Additionally, the RTX 5090D (Special Edition) and RTX 5080 will launch in China on January 30, the second day of the Chinese New Year. Reviews and performance tests will also be published simultaneously.
Pricing for the Chinese market is as follows: the RTX 5090 starts at $2250.06, and the RTX 5080 starts at $1130. The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 will be available in February, with final pricing and release dates to be confirmed.
