Kingston Fury Renegade G5: The Second Fastest PCIe 5.0 SSD on the Market

Kingston has just leaked information about their new high-speed SSD, the Fury Renegade G5. This drive is one of the fastest PCIe 5.0 SSDs you can get, with read speeds that can reach up to 14,800 MB/s. While it’s impressive, it’s still 100 MB/s slower than another SSD that was recently released and holds the title of the fastest PCIe 5.0 SSD. These high speeds come with a downside – the price. Expect it to be much higher than other, slower SSDs, and it’s mainly aimed at content creators or anyone who needs to handle large workloads, like video editors or designers. If you’re a gamer, you might not notice much difference between this PCIe 5.0 SSD and a top PCIe 4.0 SSD. In fact, it could cost you more than double the price, and that’s something you’d only really notice if you use your computer for work.
Kingston Fury Renegade G5 SSD: Features
The Kingston Fury Renegade G5 is powered by a Silicon Motion SM2508 controller, which is one of the best in its class. This controller is energy-efficient, using less than 7W of power because it’s built on a 6nm process. This is a huge improvement over the first generation of PCIe 5.0 SSDs, which had issues with overheating and performance drops. The drive uses 3D TLC NAND Flash memory chips and has a low-power DDR4 cache. These features are built into a 12-layer PCB (Printed Circuit Board) to help improve the quality of signals and make sure data is more reliable.

The Fury Renegade G5 comes in three storage sizes: 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. Depending on which model you choose, the read speeds can reach up to 14,200 MB/s for the 1TB model, 14,700 MB/s for the 2TB model, and 14,800 MB/s for the 4TB model. Write speeds are also fast: the 2TB and 4TB versions can write up to 14,000 MB/s, while the 1TB version writes at 11,000 MB/s. The 4K random read and write speeds are also impressive, with the 1TB version reaching 2,200,000 IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second), and the 2TB and 4TB models can achieve up to 2,200,000 IOPS for read and 2,000,000 IOPS for write.
The Kingston Fury Renegade G5 SSD has low power consumption, with the 1TB model using a maximum of 6.6W. The 2TB version uses 7W, and the 4TB version uses 9.5W at full load. On average, the consumption is a little lower, ranging from 6.6W to 7.1W depending on the size. In terms of durability, these SSDs are built to last. The 1TB model can handle up to 1 petabyte (PB) of data written to it, while the 2TB and 4TB models can handle 2PB and 4PB of data, respectively. Kingston promises that these drives can run for up to 2 million hours before any issues might appear, and they come with a 5-year warranty for extra peace of mind.
At this point, there is no information about how the Kingston Fury Renegade G5 is cooled. We don’t know if it just has a simple sticker on it or if it has something more advanced like a graphene heatsink. Even if it only has a sticker, it’s still a good idea to use the SSD on a modern motherboard, as they usually come with an aluminium heatsink to help keep these fast drives cool. As for the price, since this is still a leak, we don’t have a confirmed number yet. But, given the speed and high-end features, expect the price to be higher than most other SSDs on the market.
The Kingston Fury Renegade G5 is an incredibly fast SSD, with some of the highest read and write speeds available. However, it’s likely to come with a very high price tag, making it most suitable for people who need fast storage for heavy tasks like video editing or 3D rendering. For gamers, the difference between PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 4.0 SSDs might not be noticeable, but for those who need top-tier performance, this drive is one to keep an eye on.
