Micron Unveils Its First PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD for High-Speed Performance
Micron Technology, Inc. has launched its first PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSD, the Micron 4600. This new high-speed storage drive is designed for gamers, content creators, and professionals who need fast performance and efficient power usage.
The Micron 4600 SSD doubles the speed of its previous version. It comes with 14.5 GB/s read speed and 12.0 GB/s write speed. This means that large files and AI models can load very quickly, improving how users experience AI-powered applications. For example, AI models can now load 62% faster than older Gen 4 SSDs.
The Micron 4600 also uses less power while working faster. Compared to Gen 4 SSDs, it is 107% more efficient, which helps laptops last longer on battery power. The 4600 SSD is made with Micron’s latest G9 TLC NAND technology, the same used in its 2650 NVMe SSD. It works with the latest AMD Ryzen 9000 Series and Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors.
Tech leaders like AMD, Intel, and Lenovo are excited about this SSD. AMD says it will give users the best performance for gaming and professional work. Intel confirms it is fully compatible with Intel’s new AI PC platforms. Lenovo plans to use this SSD in its computers because of its fast speed and efficient manufacturing process. Compared to older SSDs, the 4600 brings 107% faster read speeds, 71% faster write speeds, and 83% more random read/write speed. It also improves AI, gaming, and content creation performance.
In benchmark tests, the Gen5 4600 is 38% better than Gen 4 SSDs and 11% better than other Gen 5 SSDs. It also improves performance in different industries, being 61% faster for media and entertainment, 59% faster for energy applications, 45% faster for product development, and 38% faster for life sciences.
The MicronTechnology 4600 comes with new security features to keep user data safe. These include secure firmware, encrypted storage, and advanced protection systems.
