KOEI TECMO and Team NINJA have released their open-world action RPG, Rise of the Ronin, on Windows PC via Steam. Originally launched for PlayStation 5, the game is set in 1863 Japan, during a time of war and political unrest. Players take on the role of a ronin, a masterless warrior, and must decide how to shape their own destiny.

Rise of the Ronin: Exploring Japan’s history
Players will explore famous locations such as Edo, Yokohama, and Kyoto, where the seasons change dynamically. For example, cherry blossoms bloom in spring, while leaves turn red in autumn. Players can also use a grappling rope to climb rooftops or a glider to fly across the map. The photo mode allows players to capture their favourite views.
A combat system for all playstyles
The game features a deep yet accessible combat system, letting players choose between melee and ranged weapons. They can also customise their weapons to match their fighting style. Additionally, the “Veiled Vow” system allows players to form special relationships with different characters, shaping their experience.
Early purchase bonus
Players who buy Rise of the Ronin on Steam before 2nd April will receive an early purchase bonus, which includes:
- Four combat styles (Hayabusa-ryu for katana, Hayabusa-ryu for naginata, Nioh-ryu for katana, Aisu Kage-ryu for katana)
- Iga Ninja armour set
- Iga Ninja’s katana
Performance issues and upcoming fixes
Some players have reported performance issues on Steam. Problems include FPS drops, slow performance, and model rendering issues when using the Ultra graphics preset. The game may also run in slow motion when the FPS limit is set to 120 FPS.
Team NINJA has recommended setting the graphics preset to High or Standard and limiting FPS to 60 as temporary fixes. The developers are currently working on a patch to improve performance and fix these issues.
